Verification Methodology

The Trust Triad: What We Check

Every listing is identity-checked, with state licenses, insurance, and reviews verified where available. Here is what each check means and where it applies.

State Licensing

State license verified where we hold the state's license records

  • We re-check the Florida and Texas state databases every day
  • We check the expiration date of each license we hold every day
  • Where we hold the state's license records, a listing left without an active license drops out of search results and city pages when its tier is next updated
  • In other states, we verify the business's identity and location instead

Insurance on File

Certificate of insurance verified when a company supplies one

  • Verified by our team before it counts toward a tier
  • Shown on the company's profile once verified
  • Required for Clinical Grade and Advanced Verified
  • Companies without verified insurance are listed as Verified Pro

Ratings With Review Counts

Google rating and review count shown where a company has reviews

  • Rating sourced from Google Business Profile
  • Clinical Grade requires 4.0+ stars from at least 5 reviews
  • Rating shown as of our most recent Google refresh
  • A high rating alone does not raise a tier; verified insurance comes first

Why this matters: Not every company has passed every check. Each profile shows which ones that company has passed, so you can see what we confirmed before you reach out.

Tier System

How Tiers Rank Results

A tier reflects what we have verified about a company, and a higher tier means more has been verified. A tier does not measure the size or type of job a company takes on, so compare profiles against your project.

Clinical Grade

Our Highest Tier

Tier A

Clinical Grade companies have verified insurance and a Google rating of 4.0 or higher from at least 5 reviews.

Verification Requirements

  • State license verified where we hold the state's license records
  • General liability insurance on file (COI verified)
  • Rated 4.0+ stars from 5+ reviews
1Listed first in search results

Advanced Verified

Insurance Verified

Tier B

Advanced Verified companies have verified insurance but have not yet reached a Google rating of 4.0 or higher from at least 5 reviews.

Verification Requirements

  • State license verified where we hold the state's license records
  • General liability insurance on file (COI verified)
  • Building toward full verification with reviews
2Listed after Clinical Grade

Verified Pro

Verified Business

Tier C

Verified Pro companies don't have verified insurance yet. A Verified Pro company can still be highly rated, so check the rating on its profile.

Verification Requirements

  • State license verified where we hold the state's license records
  • Insurance not yet verified
3Listed after Advanced Verified

How Tiers Affect Search Results

When you search, results are sorted by tier first. Clinical Grade companies appear at the top, followed by Advanced Verified, then Verified Pro. Within a tier, the order depends on the page, for example by rating and review count or by distance.

Clinical GradeAdvanced VerifiedVerified Pro

For contractors: Once our team verifies your certificate of insurance, your listing can move up to Advanced Verified. In Florida, Texas, New York, Louisiana, and DC, where we hold the state's license records, it also needs an active license on file. With verified insurance and a Google rating of 4.0 or higher from at least 5 reviews, it can reach Clinical Grade, which is listed first.

Re-Checked Every Day

Sync Frequency

Beyond Florida and Texas

We also hold license records for New York, Louisiana, and DC, but we don't re-check those state databases every day. Where we don't hold a state's license records, we have none to check listings against.

Expired License Policy

The License Kill Switch

In Florida, Texas, New York, Louisiana, and DC, where we hold the state's license records, our tier rules require an active license on file, and a listing without one drops out of search results when its tier is next updated. Here is what happens when a license expires.

Daily Expiration Check

Automated

We check the expiration date of each license we hold every day, and we re-check the Florida and Texas state databases every day.

Removed From Search Results

Automatic

When the daily check finds a license past its expiration date, it marks the license expired and recalculates the listing. In these jurisdictions, a listing with no other active license drops out of search results and city pages.

Visibility Paused

Enforced

While it is hidden, the listing is left out of search results and city pages, and we don't suggest it to homeowners looking for a professional.

Team Notified

Review

Whenever the daily check finds licenses past their expiration dates, our team gets an email listing each one.

Back After Renewal

Resolution

A listing can return to search results once our license record shows the renewal. We re-check the Florida and Texas state databases every day. If our record still shows the old expiration date, the company can send us the renewal so our team can update it.

Where This Applies

The expiration check runs automatically every day. Listings are removed for an expired license only in Florida, Texas, New York, Louisiana, and DC. In other states we don't hold the state's license records, so a listing there shows what we could verify, such as identity, insurance and Google rating. Check each company's credentials on its profile before you hire.
