Is it licensed here?
Connecticut has no stand-alone mold license, but its home improvement law names mold remediation, so a contractor doing mold remediation on a home or residential rental property must be registered with the Department of Consumer Protection as a home improvement contractor. From October 1, 2026, the state registers a contractor that does mold remediation only if it attests to holding a mold remediation certification from IICRC, NORMI or another organization the department approves, and the work must follow the ANSI/IICRC S520 standard. Connecticut does not license mold inspectors or assessors. Ask for the company's home improvement registration number and look it up with the Department of Consumer Protection before you sign.
Whatever the state requires, a mold-specific certification from an industry body is worth asking for. Examples include the IICRC's course-based Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT) and its experience-based Mold Remediation Specialist (MRS), and the ACAC's Council-certified Microbial Remediator (CMR). Each requires an exam, and each can be checked with the body that issued it. These are held by individuals, not companies, so ask who on your job holds one.
Insurance is the other half. Ask for a certificate of insurance that names general liability coverage, and call the carrier on the certificate to confirm it is current. Then get the job in writing before anyone starts: what will be contained, what will be cleaned or removed, who will fix the moisture source, and how the finished work will be checked and documented.
Connecticut's home improvement contractor registration covers mold remediation on homes and residential rental properties. Every listing here is identity-checked, and we show IICRC certifications and insurance only where a company has supplied them for verification, so you can see what has actually been checked before you call.

We don't have a figure specific to Connecticut. This is the national range. A single contained problem, like one wall or a bathroom ceiling, often comes in under it; whole-basement or post-flood work runs over it. If you get an independent assessment before the work, which we recommend, it is priced separately from the remediation, and so is an independent check after it where the job calls for one. Both should be.

What comes back: the remediation range with its source, the assessor's visit and a clearance test, which not every job needs, as their own lines, and a total.
